GAP Test

In looking for some research material, I came across my GAP Test (Global Awareness Profile) from my first year of college. It's basically a test that measures how much you know about the world. Of course, I had to take it again and see if I improved in any way at all. I switched majors halfway through college from youth ministry to missions, so I was really hoping that I had picked up a few things... and I did!

When I first took this test 3 1/2 years ago, this was how I ranked in regional geographic areas from best to worst: 1) Asia; 2) North America; 3) South America; Middle East; 4) Africa; 5) Europe

And these were my results for subject areas, best to worst again: 1) Religion; 2) Environment; 3) Politics, Socioeconomics, Culture; 4) Geography

This time around, a few of my rankings changed and I jumped in my overall score almost twenty percent! My best geographic areas and context areas are now: 1) North America; 2) Asia, Middle East; 3) Europe, Africa; 4) South America and 1) Religion; 2) Environment, Culture; 3) Geography; 4) Socioeconomics; 5) Politics

I'm really surprised about my Middle East score, which I would probably chalk up to my friend Jo's influence. I think I guessed a lot for geography, so I'm pretty happy that I improved there. The only category that I did not do better in was South America, which makes sense as I don't really pay attention to it. But hooray, I'm a bit more globally aware than I was a few years ago :)

Sigh, who knew tables would make such a fuss on here?!

An EQ test

You can tell when I'm blogging a lot that I'm putting off schoolwork :)

I just took a funny quiz called "How Evangelical Are You?" and I ended up with 110 points, making me somewhat evangelical. It's very stereotypical of evangelicals (maybe more so of those down south?) and now I'm looking forward to reading "A Field Guide to Evangelicals and Their Habitat" when it comes out. The best line had to be "See you here, there or in the air" which I knew the meaning of but would laugh if someone said it to me. I don't know about the French though. (Source: DYL)

It's a sad, sad day

I just took a Nerd/Geek/Dork test that Kelly linked to and my results are making me question if I'm worse of a nerd/geek/dork than I thought. Here are the definitions that the test provided:

A nerd is someone who is passionate about learning / being smart / academia.
A geek is someone who is passionate about some particular area or subject, often an obscure or difficult one.
A dork is someone who has difficulty with common social expectations / interactions.

You are Tri-Lamb Material
78% Nerd, 13% Geek, 60% Dork

You scored better than half in Nerd and Dork, earning you the coveted title of: Tri-Lamb Material.

The classic "80's" nerd, you are what most people think of when they think "nerd," largely due to 80's movies like "Revenge of the Nerds" and TV shows like "Head of the Class". You're exceptionally bright and smart, and partly because of that have never quite fit in with your peers or social groups. Perhaps you've realized, or will someday, that it is possible to retain all of the things that you like about being brilliant and still make peace with the social cliques around you. Or maybe you won't - it's really not necessary. As the brothers of Lambda Lambda Lambda discovered, you're fine just the way you are and can take pride in that. I mean, who wants to be like Ogre, right?!

Compared to other people your age and gender, you scored higher than 91% on nerdiness, 8% on geekosity, and 94% on dork points.
Ouch. Who in the world is Ogre?

Update: I redid this test just to see if I could score lower on Dork (I don't think I'm that inept when it comes to social interaction) but my results didn't really change: 86 % Nerd, 26% Geek, 60% Dork

You scored higher than 97% on nerdiness
You scored higher than 29% on geekosity
You scored higher than 95% on dork points

Sigh.

Sunday cleaning

Boy, when you read this sentence, it doesn't exactly bode well with you: "Canada and Italy are the only two countries on an al-Qaeda hit list that have not yet been attacked." - Source

I'm heading to church again later on tonight. My weekends this summer are going to be filled up somewhat, especially now that I'm back as a video director. It's been quite the up and down year, going from a technical director (entirely different position now) to a video director to a backstage manager and now I'm back where I kind of started. While I do enjoy the role, I've never once felt confident in my abilities, mostly because I feel I lack them or I'm not aggressive enough on carrying them out. It'll be a challenge for me this summer knowing that I'm choosing to serve God in a manner that scares me to no end! Is volunteering supposed to have me shaking in my boots/shoes? :)

Also, I think I've figured out why I haven't started my paper yet. My room is messy. And for some compulsive reason, I cannot sit down to read or research until my desk is clear and there aren't tons of junk lying around. I've been told it's more a procrastination problem than anything, but I may be bordering on some mental block. I don't know, a physical inability to write connected to the surrounding environment? It's plausible. Too bad it'll take forever to clean everything!

Funny that I spent two weeks in New England and picked absolutely nothing up, other than "laaadder" and "caaar". They really like to overextend their a's.

Joining the trend

I took this quiz over a week ago, but haven't gotten around to posting my results (yes, it's that theological quiz which a bunch of Christian bloggers are taking). But of all the results I've seen, Evangelical Holiness/Wesleyan and Emergent/Postmodern are always the top two. Imaging my delight when I saw that I managed to score pretty low on Emergent/Postmodern - hooray!

What's Your Theological Worldview?

You scored as Evangelical Holiness/Wesleyan. You are an evangelical in the Wesleyan tradition. You believe that God's grace enables you to choose to believe in him, even though you yourself are totally depraved. The gift of the Holy Spirit gives you assurance of your salvation, and he also enables you to live the life of obedience to which God has called us. You are influenced heavily by John Wesley and the Methodists.

Evangelical Holiness/Wesleyan - 71% (89%)
Neo orthodox - 68%
Fundamentalist - 64% (75%)
Reformed Evangelical - 46% (57%)
Roman Catholic - 46% (32%)
Emergent/Postmodern - 43% (36%)
Charismatic/Pentecostal - 25%
Classical Liberal - 25%
Modern Liberal - 18% (14%)

I do do stupid things!

"God will not suffer man to have the knowledge of things to come; for if he had prescience of his prosperity he would be careless; and understanding of his adversity he would be senseless."
You are Augustine!
You love to study tough issues and don't mind it if you lose sleep over them. Everyone loves you and wants to talk to you and hear your views, you even get things like "nice debating with you." Yep, you are super smart, even if you are still trying to figure it all out. You're also very honest, something people admire, even when you do stupid things.

What theologian are you?

Santa and bookmarks

I try not to promote Santa too much, because after all, it is CHRISTmas, but this is pretty funny:

Santa's Nice-o-Meter

It was a tough year, but we'll go for a "Nice" rating. A few naughty marks for excessive junk food, not going to bed on time and nearly forgetting someone's birthday. Really tried to keep up with household chores, though. Extra credit for smiling a lot. Is kind to senior citizens. Keep improving!

That's scary cause most of it is true. Hmmm, is someone watching me?

It took a few hours but I cleaned out all of my blog bookmarks last night. In total though, I have 16 categories with 45 subcategories, 11 sub-sub categories, 13 sub cubed categories, and 2 sub to the power of four categories in my complete bookmark collection. I reckon that will take a few days to sort out completely :)

Because I bookmark a lot of stuff, I have lost where all of my original sources came from. I'm going to be posting some stuff over the next few days, but they won't have the source to them. Believe me, I like giving credit where credit is due so if I post something and you suspect that it came from your blog, leave me a comment and I'll link you right away! All this referencing and footnoting comes from too much college research. I even memorized how to do them correctly for my papers. Ahh!!

Now for something not as serious

Congratulations, you're Seattle, the Emerald City.
What US city are you? Take the quiz by Girlwithagun

Contrary to popular opinion, Seattle is not as rainy as legend says. It is in fact a charming green jewel with sparkling cerulean water and verdant hills. Its isolation has made it home to free-thinking and independent individuals. Despite having the most millionaires per capita, it still has a small town atmosphere. A small town with lots of coffee that is. Java is an art there. Perhaps it is the coffee that has caused this city to give birth to twisted cartoonists and rock stars.

I don't drink coffee at all so this is funny. But I love Seattle! I'd really like to go back and visit the city again one day.

Quiz Result

You are: POM-POM!

You're the best friend in the world. You're an intelligent and laid-back kind of person who plays it cool, but will always stick up for your best bud. No one's really got anything against you. You can be on good terms with just about anybody, and have no trouble attracting the opposite sex. Your great social powers can even allow you to cross the boundaries of the most rigid and hostile cliques. You can best befriend a Homestar or a Strong Bad.

Take that!

You are 38% geek!

You are a geek liaison, which means you go both ways. You can hang out with normal people or you can hang out with geeks which means you often have geeks as friends and/or have a job where you have to mediate between geeks and normal people. This is an important role and one of which you should be proud. In fact, you can make a good deal of money as a translator.

Normal: Tell our geek we need him to work this weekend.

You [to Geek]: We need more than that, Scotty. You'll have to stay until you can squeeze more outta them engines!

Geek [to You]: I'm givin' her all she's got, Captain, but we need more dilithium crystals!

You [to Normal]: He wants to know if he gets overtime.
