MIA bloggers
Seriously? I have almost 500 unread things in my news reader. I don't know how I'm ever going to get around to those, much less the nearly 100 things I've saved for future reading. How and when did I accumulate so many feeds to read?! I know that the majority of those aren't from blogs because a lot of my friends and classmates have stopped updating their blogs. In fact, most of my links are to "dead" blogs so perhaps I'll link to them in a post instead of having them in my sidebar.
Without further ado, here are the bloggers that have gone missing in action over the past several years:
- Can You Keep Up?!
- Join the Foreign Guy's Adventure
- Popcorn Medievalist
- Trevor's Thought Cloud
- Truth is Discovered
- What Would Kim Do
There's a few others as well but I'm not really sure if they've stopped blogging yet. It's too bad - I really enjoyed the aforementioned blogs.

Still school
Hmm, I'm up much later than I should be. I'm utterly exhausted after an amazing night spent with former classmates and I should be asleep by now but instead, I'm finally catching up on emails/online messages.
A couple of people from my missions classes a few years ago were in town this weekend so we made it a point to all get together and catch up on each others' lives. It was fantastic, and I wish we could do it more often. It's incredible that even after a few years, we are all so tight - practically like a family. Since a lot of my friends are married now, it's refreshing to hang out with people who are still at the same life stage that I'm at.
I didn't realize it until this past month but my social life has really diminished since working in ministry. Whereas I used to spend much more time with other people when I was a student, now it's been reduced to weekends and maybe an evening here and there (I suppose that comes with being done school). I have to admit that when I first started college, I was a bit skeptical of people who mentioned that their college friends were the people who became their dearest friends. For some reason, I didn't think that would happen to me but now that I'm finished school, I can see how true it is since almost of all my social activities consist of being with former classmates.
Another thing that this has brought up for me is the notion that I should still be in school. Although I am completely relieved that I am finished, hearing about my friends who are finishing up their degrees makes me want to undertake another program of study. I know, this is crazy and the feeling may likely pass but I've been thinking of taking a course somewhere. Not sure where yet and in what field but I'm on the lookout for something that'll catch my eye. Of course, this could just be stemming from the fact that it is September :)

Life or something like it
As I mentioned in an email to a friend today, I am ridiculously overloaded this semester and the blame is entirely on me. I was just peering at the list I made on New Year's Day and boy, does it look impossible! The happy news is that I've turned down plans to attend some missions events (the logistics would have never worked out) but the sad news is that I can't take part in Thesis Club due to my crazy schedule. I'm settling into my semester so far and am attempting to get all of the weekly course requirements out of the way this month so that I can focus on my thesis later on. I'm really going to have to buckle down and get as disciplined as I can!
I wish I had more exciting news to share on here but as usual, school is taking over any semblance I have of a life :) I am thrilled that graduation is coming closer (albeit the excitement is mixed with a sense of dread that my foolishness may get me into trouble) and that I can tell people that it's my last semester of school. I have a feeling that most people think I've been in school for too long, but I'm assuming they think I'm still finishing up my undergrad. In any case, I am anticipating the days when I can live life rather than only thinking about it - well, I suppose I am living life now but it's quite restricted to books and papers!
One thing I have really appreciated about my last year of seminary has been the Bible study group that one of my friends started after countless pleas to try and get together. I'm sure glad that God laid it on his heart - bless his patience! - since it's been a wonderful thing for all of us who are in the group. Right now, the majority of us are struggling with school and family concerns, so after a very much needed time of prayer together recently, I'm hoping that we are all feeling refreshed and renewed to press on. Since I'm writing my thesis on the topic of the church, I've definitely treasured the Christian community that I've had these past few months. God has answered my prayers for a small group to belong to in a grand way! Now I just need them to help keep me accountable with all this school stuff and that would be splendid :)

How they met
I came across Christine's blog a few months ago through some other Christian website and saw that she had some really good posts on gender relations and such. Well, I just surfed back onto her blog and found out that she is engaged! I read a bit into their story of how it happened and it is neat to see how God uses the most creative methods in getting people together.
One of my friends told me that she first met her husband when he literally showed up on her front doorstop - they got married a year later to the day. Another friend met his wife when he moved to a different city as a missionary and his best friend who also moved with him is now dating one of his wife's friends. One of my other friends met her husband through children's ministry at church. And from what I've heard, lots of people at my college met through the vortex known as choir. I admit that I'm a sucker for these fun stories but in addition to that, I love hearing about God's hand in all of these lives. In a culture that's saturated with unhealthy relationships and flawed dating principles, it is lovely to come across people who have put Christ at the centre of their lives and who have trusted Him with their marriage partners. I look forward to hearing even more of these wonderful stories from others.

Reward for finishing
I've been extremely busy lately - I am hosting a friend from Québec for a few days. Everything is going wonderfully and I couldn't be more blessed. The trip up north went great and it's been a whirlwind adventure since the day my friend and I left for that. I am so relieved that my paper was finished before this began. Bonne nuit!

Happily running about
I had a great day today. It's not everyday that when you walk into church you get hugs from the staff. Or run into the one person you did not expect to see and have a wonderful afternoon with them, and on top of that, have them show you their blog.
Since I won't be starting work until next month, I haven't had a regular schedule lately. Right now, my schedule means sleeping in until the afternoons and lazing about the house, finding little and usually trivial things to do. Obviously, not very productive (but nice - I'm not complaining!). However, I've been doing a bit more this week. I had three meetings at church today, so it gave me a chance to talk to nearly everyone that I ran into. And as much as I'll be sad about some people leaving, I am thrilled that so many familiar faces are still there. That's what I need to focus on; that's what will be exciting.
And along with my summer mentality, I figured that I might as well stop by the school and take out some books for my impending paper. That's when I ran into the aforementioned blogger and had a chat about templates and stuff. Finally, someone who understands! So, do check out my friend Mara's site. I had the blessing of meeting her this year in Greek class, and without her I would not have survived it. She's a great conversationalist, a fantastic Greek buddy, and a fellow "I actually care about my grammar and grades!" student. She also comes up with the best one-liners :)

En Chine
Laura et al are now in China after an extremely long flight. Haven't heard anything else other than what's been posted on her site and on Andrew's, Dan's, and Sara's, three teachers who have been over there for about a year now. I can't wait to hear more about how they're settling in and some of the culture shock that follows. I'm sure that when they come back next year, they'll know more Mandarin than I'll ever learn in my life!

Skill olympics
I just found out my friend is going to be in World Skills 2005 Helsinki (cue dramatic music) which I guess is like the Olympics, except without the athletics. Rather, there are categories for skills such as web design, joinery, beauty therapy, robotics or bricklaying in which people can compete (he'll be doing something in the tech world). I've never heard of this before, so I had to look it up and figure out what it was. Funny thing is that there was an article about how my city won the bid for World Skills 2009 but I don't think too many people know that. Granted, it's in five years but to have some international honour like that is cool. First, the Winter Olympics, next the World Skills Competition, then the world! Okay slight exaggeration but it'll be exciting to hear more about it in coming years.
Update: My friend actually ended up in the top twenty in the world, in fourth place for the most points! He also got silver for his category. How awesome is that :)

To film or not to film
Hmm, my friend Jas has asked me if I would like to film her wedding. I have done this before, with a videography company I work with in town for weddings of people I have never met before, and as a wedding gift for my pastor. But I've never done this for friends before. One of the guys who I worked with this summer is a professional photographer and he said that he never takes pictures for any of his friend's weddings. I'm wondering if I should follow the same policy.

Ode to sound
What are the odds that while I have been in video for years, my best friend has suddenly gotten in sound? It's the perfect complement, which is too funny for words.

Friends are such blessings!
Well had another chiro appt today. Needless to say, I am all out of whack. Then headed to work even though I had the day off (no I am not a workaholic). I just wanted to wish Kate goodbye and ended up being able to sit in on a video shoot :)
Then my best friend stopped by my work to surprise me before she left for a 3 week vacation!! It was so nice of her to, and it was perfect timing because she came just as the tape ran out of film! I'm going to miss her tons as she and her family travel across the States and head for the East Coast... speaking of which, they should be in the Dakotas by now. I'm sure they're thankful they don't have to go through Saskatchewan and Manitoba!
My friend Anna and I hung out today which was a super blast. I haven't seen her in over a year so it was definitely due time for a visit with her. We went to Starbucks and even though I have tales of this corporation, I settled for a Tazo Citrus, which sadly enough is going off of their menu soon (Why?! Why?! The one thing I finally like from SB!). Then we headed to a Christian bookstore... surprise, surprise... and bought a book that I was going to give Lissa when she came back but found out that she already got it, so I bought it for myself. I felt a little indulgent there but it's such a good book! And best of all, Anna got me a copy of Starfield's self-titled album! I was so thrilled! Everyone knows I've been trying to get a copy of it ever since I first heard of them and their CD release however it has been completely sold out and impossible to attain. But Anna did it, thanks so much again, you are incredible!
In fact, this is my mood right now:
The whole world's in on the action
So turn that frown around
It's the rhythm of the ages
everybody's gettin' down
God put the boogie in ya
gave you what you got to move it
so quit yakkin' 'bout your groove
I want to see you prove it

Whoops
So I guess I came just a tad late to the wedding... like almost an hour. Thanks to my wonderful friend who told me it started at 1:45pm but really started at 1:00pm. Boy did I feel rude entering the sanctuary just as they were about to kiss. Whoops! I don't think I'll ever forget that one. It was an incredible wedding though (what little I caught), especially when the groom's life groups made the recessional line which they formed with swords, dressed up as knights. It was too cool! And the church was completely packed, no surprise there! It was too beautiful for words (which is why I regret missing a ton of it!). I was just so amazed at the impact that this couple made on all their friends and family, something you could truly see as everyone gathered to celebrate their special day.
Oh well, at least I got to run into an old friend and some other close friends to me. We spent the afternoon after the ceremony hanging out at McDonald's, which was so much fun. My friend Mel always makes an outing hilarious. In fact, we got kicked out of an eating establishment once because we were all being so loud... which was no fault of my own :) So that kind of made up for my late arrival.
Afterwards, I headed to church to do some stuff but it was already done so I went to the church library to borrow some books instead. My best friend (being the bookstore gal) keeps bugging me to read some fiction since all I read is non-fiction. So I decided to appease her and took out some fiction books. I took out a book that I had read before and loved getting to read it again. Now I'm on two others which the wife of one of my pastors suggested... so onto some reading now!

Wedding blues
I just remembered that one of my friends is getting married this weekend! He invited my best friend and me, but uh... we kind of forgot to ask where it was held. Hopefully, the ceremony is taking place at our church but I could always be wrong. And hopefully I'll find out tomorrow because it's pretty dumb that I don't even know where it is! It's too bad my best friend can't make it but if it's at church then I'll definitely go. Anywhere else... probably not, since he should have told us beforehand! :)
I'm a little bored so I'm just looking at wedding websites and reading stuff about photography/videography. It's pretty helpful because next time I film a wedding, I'll know what to do better. Getting the perspective on the other side definitely helps in knowing what shots to get and how to piece everything together (thankfully I'm not editing wedding footage... yet). Anyways, this site had a bunch of great tips and definitions. Who knew photographers/videographers cost so much?!
I guess summertime is always wedding season. I estimate that by next year, I'll have about a wedding to go to each month or maybe more. I'm just waiting for a few friends to get engaged first! That's the beauty of Bible college though, it doesn't take long... it doesn't take long!

"Memoirs of a Stolen Train Ride..."
I'm back... again for the second time today... (I count last night's as yesterday's!). Blogs are so much fun! You get to change things and add things depending on the way you feel; you have so much freedom to be creative :) The hard part is getting your screen to look like what you want it to!
Well, the picnic was a blast! We went on a little kids' train ride (recreating our childhood....!), then we tossed a football around and played with a super-cool frisbee that you can catch around your head! Unfortunately, I have an odd-shaped head (and a bad sense of sight!) so I was the only one who couldn't catch it. It was great getting together with old church friends, and I'm excited that we're going to make this a regular thing now. I just love that these girls have been there for me through so much and that our friendships are so strong, despite none of us having gone to the same school ('cept for a select few!). That is what true fellowship is all about....
This is getting quite long and I am working on the college yearbook all day tomorrow so I better go. I'm a little sad that my summer has so much stuff packed in it though. I don't even get Canada Day off - definitely a first!!
